Soham Chakraborty Alleges Death Threats from Film Producer Over Stalled Project

Bengali actor Soham Chakraborty has made serious allegations against a film producer, claiming he received death threats over a refund for a stalled project. The actor, who lost in the 2026 West Bengal Elections, was supposed to star in a film that never went into production due to conflicts between the director and producer. After years of silence, the producer demanded a refund of the advance payment, leading to a heated confrontation. Soham is now contemplating legal action to address the threats he has received. This situation raises questions about industry practices and the treatment of actors.

Soham Chakraborty's Alarming Claims

Actor Soham Chakraborty, known for his work in Bengali cinema and a former TMC MLA, has recently come into the spotlight for alleging that the producer of his unfinished film has threatened his life. Reports indicate that the actor, who faced defeat in the 2026 West Bengal Elections from Karimpur, was set to star in a film back in 2018, directed by Mahua Chakraborty and produced by Taru Das. At that time, he received an advance payment of Rs 15 lakh. However, due to conflicts between the director and producer, the project never materialized. Now, after eight years, the producer has reportedly contacted Soham's associate, demanding a refund of the advance.

Film's Journey and Challenges

As per a report from Sangbad Pratidin, Soham was expected to begin filming with Mahua Chakraborty in 2018. However, the director later informed him that she was withdrawing from the project due to the producer's inappropriate conduct, which made her uncomfortable. Consequently, the film was shelved. Fast forward to May 2026, the producer unexpectedly reached out to Soham's aide, insisting on a refund of the advance payment. Soham claims that when he refused to return the money and suggested resolving the issues, the producer resorted to abusive language and threats against his life.

Threats and Legal Action

In an interview, Soham Chakraborty stated that he had never met Tarun Das prior to this incident. The narrative was conveyed to him by Mahua and her executive producer, Amitabh Mukherjee, leading him to approve the project. The advance payment was made to secure his availability for the film. Following the fallout between the director and producer, Soham attempted to mediate but to no avail. After eight years, Tarun Das demanded the advance back, claiming that the delay had prevented Soham from taking on other projects. Soham reported that the producer issued threats, stating he would face dire consequences. When Soham proposed creating a new film, the producer allegedly threatened to harm him. It is important to note that industry norms dictate that advance payments are non-refundable if the producer fails to produce the film. Unwilling to accept the threats, Soham has decided to take the matter seriously and is considering legal action against the producer.
