Shwetha Menon Makes History as First Female President of AMMA
Historic Leadership in Malayalam Cinema
In a groundbreaking move for the Malayalam film industry, Shwetha Menon has made history by being elected as the president of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA). This significant announcement follows the dissolution of AMMA, which occurred after the resignation of former president Mohanlal and other committee members amid sexual harassment allegations against certain individuals within the organization.
Expressing her gratitude after this landmark victory, Shwetha Menon stated, “I appreciate all the family members and the media for their support. You have all been advocating for women to lead A.M.M.A, and now it has come to fruition. I hope to receive your continued support.”
She further mentioned, “I believe those who resigned from AMMA will return. I invite those who left due to disagreements to come back — I will personally reach out to them if needed.”
In addition, Kukku Parameswaran has been appointed as the General Secretary, securing 172 votes.
Shwetha Menon previously made headlines when a case was filed against her, alleging that she participated in films and advertisements deemed obscene and vulgar for monetary gain. However, the court later dismissed the case.
