Insights from Shantanu Maheshwari on Youth Genre

In his conversation, Shantanu expressed, “It’s flattering to be regarded as a youth icon. However, I am conscious of avoiding typecasting in my roles. I strive to select characters that are distinct from my previous portrayals. For instance, I have never embodied a character like Ishaan before. I continuously challenge myself with the roles I undertake, as it is essential for an actor to bring uniqueness to each character.”

He elaborated, “While being associated with the youth genre is common, it’s important to note that youth culture evolves every few years. Their perspectives shift, and I am grateful to remain relevant in this genre. Many aspire to revisit their college and high school days, and I have the privilege of entertaining this demographic, which constitutes a significant portion of our audience. I genuinely enjoy this connection. I feel youthful and perhaps that’s why I resonate with this genre and its narratives.”

Shantanu concluded, “I don’t perceive this association as a limitation; rather, I view it as a positive aspect. While I am capable of taking on more mature roles, I am currently content in this space and feel fortunate to be part of it.”
