Shaan Addresses A.R. Rahman's Remarks

Mumbai: Celebrated playback singer Shaan has refuted any suggestions of a 'communal or minority' bias in A.R. Rahman's recent comments regarding his diminishing opportunities in the Hindi film sector.

In a conversation with BBC Asian Network, Rahman expressed that he often hears about the reasons for his reduced work indirectly, referring to it as 'Chinese whispers.'

He elaborated, stating, 'Individuals lacking creativity now hold decision-making power, and while this could have communal implications, it hasn't been presented to me directly.'

Rahman mentioned, 'I hear that I was booked, but the music label opted for their five composers instead. I thought, 'That's fine; I can relax with my family.'

When asked about Rahman's statements, Shaan remarked, 'I am here, and I am not receiving much work either.'

'Having sung for many years, I too find my opportunities limited. However, I don't dwell on it much as I believe it's a personal matter. Everyone has their preferences, and the amount of work we receive is beyond our control.'

He continued, 'Whatever projects come my way, I strive to execute them well. Rahman's unique style is remarkable, and his fanbase continues to grow. So if there were any issues,'

Shaan emphasized that he sees no 'communal angle.'

'I don't believe there's any communal or minority bias. If such a factor existed, our superstars, who have been in the minority for decades, would have fewer fans. This isn't the case. Focus on producing quality work and music, and don't get caught up in these notions.'
