Sargun Mehta Addresses PR Misuse in the Film Industry

Sargun Mehta has voiced her concerns regarding what she perceives as the increasing 'misuse' of public relations (PR) in the entertainment sector. In a candid discussion with a media outlet, the actress elaborated on how promotional campaigns often divert attention from the films themselves, morphing into contests among actors vying to be recognized as the standout performer of a project. She cited her upcoming film Carry On Jatta 4 as a prime example, explaining that distinct PR narratives are frequently crafted for various actors involved in the same film, fostering unnecessary rivalry.

Sargun Mehta Discusses the Impact of PR

In her remarks, Sargun emphasized that PR is often exploited within the Hindi film industry and even among the film's own team members. She stated, "I definitely think that the misuse of PR is more prevalent here, not just in terms of criticizing another person's film." She elaborated that during a film's release, the first narrative often presented is that of one actor claiming to be the best part of the film.

Using Carry On Jatta 4 as a reference, she humorously pointed out how various narratives are pushed for different stars in the same film. She remarked, "It’s like I have to say Carry On Jatta 4 release hui meri alag PR chal rahi hai. ‘Sargun is the best person to ever be in Carry On Jatta' or ‘Gippy the only shining star of Carry On Jatta.'" Sargun believes that audiences are now more perceptive to these tactics, which is why she advocates for film promotions to concentrate on the project rather than individual personas.

She further expressed that the success of a film ultimately benefits everyone involved, while individual PR efforts are insignificant if the film does not perform well. "Film chale to sab chalenge. Film nahi chali to tum shining star rocket pe pahunch jao, kuch nahi hone wala uska," she added.

The Carry On Jatta series is recognized as one of the most commercially successful franchises in Punjabi cinema.
