Robert Pattinson's The Batman: Part II Delayed to 2028 with First Look Revealed
First Look at The Batman: Part II
Exciting news has emerged as Matt Reeves unveiled the initial official image of Robert Pattinson portraying The Batman, also known as Bruce Wayne, in the forthcoming The Batman: Part II. However, there's a downside: the release date for this highly anticipated sequel has been postponed to February 18, 2028, shifting from its original date of October 1, 2027. Warner Bros., the studio behind the film, has also rescheduled other upcoming projects, including The Great Beyond and Panic Carefully, which have seen similar delays. Fans can find comfort in the newly released camera test that features the iconic hero in a rain-soaked scene.
Matt Reeves Teases New Footage
From the outset, writer-director Matt Reeves has been engaging fans by sharing sneak peeks of his DC ventures. He previously announced the cast for The Batman: Part II using a series of GIFs, intentionally omitting the names of new characters. On July 15, he posted a 30-second clip showcasing Robert Pattinson in his Batman attire, turning in the rain, with a police car visible in the background. A fresh red logo for the sequel has also been revealed.
Notably, cinematographer Erik Messerschmidt has joined the project, as Greig Fraser, the director of photography for The Batman (2022), faced scheduling conflicts. Filming is currently taking place in the UK. The sequel will introduce new cast members, including Sebastian Stan, Brian Tyree Henry, Scarlett Johansson, Charles Dance, and Sebastian Koch. Speculation suggests that Stan may portray the serial killer Victor Zsasz, while Johansson could be playing either Gilda Dent, the wife of Harvey Dent, or Poison Ivy. However, details about the new characters remain under wraps.
Returning Characters in The Batman: Part II
The sequel is expected to delve into Bruce Wayne's investigation of corruption in Gotham City. Consequently, familiar faces such as Oz Cobb (Colin Farrell), Jim Gordon (Jeffrey Wright), Alfred Pennyworth (Andy Serkis), Mayor Bella Reál (Jayme Lawson), and GCPD officer Martinez (Gil Perez-Abraham) will reprise their roles. There are also rumors that Barry Keoghan's Joker might make a return.
Additionally, reports indicate that The Batman: Part II will incorporate the storyline of the Court of Owls, a secret society of Gotham's elite that has wielded power over the city for centuries. Matt Reeves co-wrote the screenplay alongside Mattson Tomlin. Despite the film's release being pushed back by a year and a half, plans for a third installment to complete the trilogy are already in motion.
