Riteish Deshmukh's directorial venture, Raja Shivaji, continues to shine at the box office, even amidst the release of new films. This remarkable movie has made history by becoming the first Marathi film to surpass the ₹100 crore mark in India’s Nett Box Office Collection. The film, inspired by the life of the legendary Shivaji Maharaj, features a stellar cast including Sanjay Dutt, Abhishek Bachchan, Mahesh Manjrekar, Bhagyashree, and Genelia Deshmukh. It debuted in theaters on May 1 and has quickly climbed the ranks to become the eighth-highest grossing Indian film of the year.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh reported that Raja Shivaji entered the ₹100 crore club in its fourth week, earning ₹70 lakh on Friday, ₹1.35 crore on Saturday, and ₹1.40 crore on Sunday, bringing its total earnings for the fourth week to ₹101.40 crore.
In the preceding week, the film garnered ₹1.70 crore on Friday, ₹2.98 crore on Saturday, followed by ₹3.80 crore on Sunday and ₹1.25 crore on Monday. The film's first week earnings totaled ₹57.70 crore, with the second week contributing ₹27 crore. The third and fourth weeks saw earnings of ₹13.35 crore and ₹3.45 crore, respectively, culminating in a total of ₹101.40 crore.
On a global scale, the film has also excelled, amassing ₹114.8 crore, making it the highest-grossing Marathi film ever.
In a recent interview, Bhagyashree, who plays Shivaji's mother, shared insights about their age difference. She expressed her excitement about portraying a character she had long admired, stating, "When you have the chance to embody a character you've grown up hearing stories about, it's an opportunity you can't pass up. Jijau was indeed a young mother. Santosh Sivan, the cinematographer, even complimented me on my youthful appearance, which I truly appreciate."
Directed by Riteish Deshmukh, Raja Shivaji is an epic biographical drama that pays tribute to the legendary warrior king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Released by Jio Studios on May 1, 2026, in both Marathi and Hindi, the film has generated significant buzz among audiences, showcasing the inspiring legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
