Ranveer Singh's Adaptation of The Immortals of Meluha: What’s the Real Story?

Recent rumors suggested that Ranveer Singh had acquired the rights to adapt Amish Tripathi's fantasy novel, The Immortals of Meluha, into a film. However, Tripathi has clarified that these claims are untrue, stating that the rights remain with him. Akshay Kumar had previously shown interest in adapting the novel, expressing regret for not pursuing it. Additionally, Karan Johar had once aimed to produce a film based on the book, but that project never materialized. As Singh enjoys success with his latest films, fans are left wondering about the future of this adaptation.

The Truth Behind the Adaptation Rumors

Amish Tripathi's acclaimed fantasy novel, The Immortals of Meluha, has recently been in the spotlight following rumors that actor Ranveer Singh had secured the rights to adapt it into a film. Singh was reportedly set to collaborate with Ananya Birla’s Birla Studios to bring this beloved story to life on the big screen. However, Tripathi has since refuted these claims, clarifying the current status of the book's adaptation rights.

In a related note, actor Akshay Kumar had previously shown interest in adapting The Immortals of Meluha. During the launch of Tripathi’s earlier book, Scion of Ikshvaku, Kumar shared that he was advised to acquire the rights when the novel first debuted. He reminisced, “I remember being told to buy the rights to Amish’s first book about Lord Shiva. I had seen the cover and wasn’t sure I could portray Lord Shiva convincingly.” Kumar expressed regret for not pursuing the opportunity, feeling he missed out on a major project.

Additionally, filmmaker Karan Johar had once expressed a desire to produce a film adaptation of The Immortals of Meluha through his production house. Despite years of development, the project ultimately did not materialize. In 2024, Tripathi confirmed that Johar no longer possessed the rights to his works, adding further complexity to the potential adaptations.

In light of the recent speculation regarding Singh's involvement, Tripathi released a statement to clarify the matter. He stressed that the rights to the Shiva Trilogy are still with him and that no agreements have been made with any party. “I have immense respect for Ranveer and am a fan of his work. However, this news is not accurate,” he stated, putting to rest the rumors surrounding Singh's participation in the adaptation.

This clarification may disappoint fans who were eager to see Singh take on the role of Lord Shiva. Currently, Singh is basking in the success of his recent films, Dhurandhar and its sequel, Dhurandhar: The Revenge, both of which have been well-received by audiences.
