Legal Proceedings Against Ranveer Singh

Mumbai: The Karnataka High Court has taken up a petition from Ranveer Singh, who is seeking to dismiss a private complaint and FIR concerning his alleged disrespectful remarks about a divine figure in Rishab Shetty's film Kantara: Chapter 1.

During the court session, Justice M. Nagaprasanna, presiding over a single-judge bench, raised concerns regarding the delay in submitting objections to the complaint.

The judge remarked that Ranveer's comments were 'not appropriate', highlighting the accountability that public figures have regarding their statements.

It was suggested that Ranveer's earlier apology on social media lacked sincerity, and there were calls for him to visit Chamundi Hill with his legal counsel to offer a personal apology.

The court agreed to this proposal, indicating that if Ranveer is summoned to apologize in court, he should comply.

The hearing has been postponed until April 10 for further proceedings.

To recap, Ranveer encountered significant backlash after a video surfaced online where he referred to Chamundi daiva as a 'Female ghost'.

While praising the film, he stated, 'I watched Kantara Chapter 1 in theatres, and Rishab, it was an outstanding performance, especially when the female ghost (Chamundi daiva) enters your body; that shot was amazing.'

He further imitated the scene depicting Chamundi daiva's possession of Rishab, which led to criticism from netizens who emphasized that Chamundi is a Goddess, not a ghost.

Subsequently, the Dhurandhar actor issued a sincere apology on social media, expressing that his intention was merely to commend Rishab Shetty's remarkable acting.

'My goal was to showcase Rishabh's incredible performance in the film. As an actor, I understand the effort required to portray that scene as he did, and he has my utmost respect. If I have offended anyone, I genuinely apologize,' he wrote.
