Controversy Surrounding Janhvi Kapoor's Role

Criticism of Janhvi Kapoor's Character

While Peddi has garnered praise for its sports narrative and Ram Charan's performance, it has also faced backlash regarding the depiction of Janhvi Kapoor's character. Some viewers have accused the film of hypersexualizing the female lead, which has become a focal point of discussion, at times overshadowing its sporting themes and box office success. In response to the growing criticism, director Buchi Babu Sana publicly addressed the concerns on June 6, stating, "Cinema should entertain, inspire, and connect with audiences, not make them feel uncomfortable or disrespected." He emphasized that the intention was never to demean women and expressed regret if any scenes caused discomfort.

In light of the backlash, the filmmakers announced plans to modify certain scenes. Buchi Babu Sana acknowledged that cinema evolves with its audience and that creators must be sensitive to shifting social norms. He affirmed that every woman deserves respectful representation and reiterated the team's commitment to crafting narratives that highlight strong and meaningful female characters.

Peddi follows the journey of its main character, portrayed by Ram Charan, as he navigates his identity through various sports, including cricket, wrestling, and sprinting, ultimately gaining recognition from the Indian government. The film also features Shivarajkumar, Divyendu Sharma, Jagapathi Babu, and Boman Irani.
