Several cheques issued for repayment were dishonored, resulting in legal action under the Negotiable Instruments Act. The total amount owed, including interest and penalties, ballooned to nearly Rs 9 crore. Rajpal surrendered to Tihar Jail and was released on February 16 after the Delhi High Court granted him interim relief. The legal proceedings are ongoing.
