Preity Zinta Takes Legal Action Against Punjab Kings Co-Owners: What’s Behind the Dispute?
Preity Zinta's Legal Challenge Against Co-Directors
New Delhi: Actress and co-owner of Punjab Kings, Preity Zinta, has reportedly initiated legal proceedings against her fellow directors, Mohit Burman and Ness Wadia, in a Chandigarh court.
The trio serves as directors of KPH Dream Cricket Private Limited, the entity that owns the IPL franchise, Punjab Kings.
Reports indicate that Zinta is contesting the validity of an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) that took place on April 21. She asserts that the meeting was conducted without adhering to the necessary protocols outlined in the Companies Act, 2013, along with other regulatory guidelines.
Zinta claims she raised objections regarding the meeting via email on April 10, but her concerns were disregarded. She alleges that Burman proceeded with the meeting, backed by Wadia.
Although Zinta and another director, Karan Paul, were present at the meeting, she is seeking a court ruling to declare it null and void. A significant issue for her is the appointment of Muneesh Khanna as a director during this meeting, which both she and Paul opposed.
In her lawsuit, Zinta has requested the court to prevent Khanna from acting as a director and to halt any decisions made during the meeting.
Additionally, she has asked the court to prohibit the company from conducting any further board or general meetings without her and Karan Paul's presence, and without Khanna's involvement, until the matter is resolved.
Despite these ongoing legal challenges, Zinta has been actively supporting the Punjab Kings from the stands during the current IPL 2025 season, which has been promising for the team.
Under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer, the Punjab Kings have secured a playoff spot for the first time since 2014, currently holding third place with 17 points from 12 matches, and are aiming for a top-two finish.
The Punjab Kings are set to face the Delhi Capitals in Jaipur on Saturday (May 24) and the Mumbai Indians on Monday (May 26) to conclude their league matches.
