Pixar's Hoppers: A Box Office Sensation Surpassing Classics!
Hoppers Continues to Dominate the Box Office
Pixar's newest animated film, Hoppers, remains a favorite among moviegoers even a month post its U.S. release, consistently ranking in the top five at the domestic box office. The film made a strong debut, raking in $45.3 million during its opening weekend across 4,000 theaters in North America. Over the weekend of April 10-12, Hoppers added an additional $4.2 million to its total, reflecting a modest 28.6% drop despite being shown in 440 fewer theaters. This brings its cumulative domestic earnings to $157.4 million.
Having crossed the $150 million threshold in the U.S., Hoppers is now on track to hit the $200 million mark internationally, with $197.3 million earned overseas, just $2.7 million away from this goal. With a global total of $354.7 million, Hoppers has already surpassed Sony's animated feature, GOAT, which grossed $185.9 million worldwide. As reported by Box Office Mojo, Hoppers is currently the second-highest-grossing animated film globally for the year 2026.
Throughout its impressive run, Hoppers has outperformed several well-known films, including I, Robot (2004), Basic Instinct (1992), and X-Men: First Class (2011). It is now approaching the box office total of the celebrated 1988 film Rain Man, which earned $354.8 million. Furthermore, Hoppers is closing in on the worldwide earnings of two iconic Tom Cruise movies: Top Gun (1986) and Minority Report (2002).
To surpass these classics, Hoppers needs about $2.6 million to exceed Top Gun's global total and approximately $3.7 million to outdo Minority Report's earnings. Even if the film sees a 30-35% revenue drop during the weekend of April 17-19, it seems well-positioned to surpass both films soon. The final results will become clearer as Hoppers continues its theatrical journey.
Directed by Daniel Chong, Hoppers tells the story of Mabel, an animal enthusiast who uses cutting-edge technology to transfer human consciousness into realistic robotic animals. After she hops into a robotic beaver to communicate with wildlife, Mabel discovers a threat to their forest home and embarks on a mission to help the animals safeguard their habitat. As the film's box office saga unfolds, audiences can anticipate more updates on its performance.
