Pixar's Box Office Hoppers Soars: A New Animated Hit Post-Pandemic
Box Office Success for Pixar's Latest Release
Pixar's newest animated film, Box Office Hoppers, is making headlines as it achieves remarkable success at the box office in the aftermath of COVID-19. In North America, it has outperformed Elemental, becoming the top-grossing original animated feature since the pandemic began. The film is on track to surpass the domestic earnings of the least successful entry in the How to Train Your Dragon series, further establishing its foothold in the competitive animation sector.
Currently, Box Office Hoppers holds the title of the third-highest-grossing film of the year at the domestic box office, only behind The Super Mario Galaxy Movie in the animation category. The film boasts an impressive voice cast, including Piper Curda, Bobby Moynihan, Jon Hamm, Kathy Najimy, and Dave Franco, and has garnered favorable reviews from viewers, which has bolstered its strong performance despite facing tough competition from other films.
As per Box Office Mojo's data, Hoppers earned $4.1 million during its sixth three-day weekend, even after losing 440 theaters. It also brought in $363,000 on its sixth Tuesday, a discount day at the North American box office. While this marks a nearly 63% decline from the previous Tuesday, the film's domestic total has now reached $157.8 million, with estimates suggesting it could wrap up its run around $180 million in North America.
In contrast, How to Train Your Dragon: Hidden World, released in 2019, is the lowest-grossing film in its franchise, with a domestic total of $160.9 million. Box Office Hoppers is now just $3 million away from surpassing this figure, indicating its potential to set a new standard for Pixar's original animated films.
On a global scale, Hoppers has exceeded the $350 million milestone, with international earnings reaching $197.3 million. When combined with its domestic performance, the worldwide total stands at $355.1 million, and it is expected to conclude its theatrical run with around $400 million. This remarkable performance highlights Pixar's ongoing significance and appeal within the animation industry.
