Parineeta's Re-Release: Saif Ali Khan Remembers the Film's Legacy
Excitement Surrounds Parineeta's Return to Theaters
Mumbai, August 29: The excitement among fans is palpable as the beloved 2005 film Parineeta makes its return to theaters. This film, featuring notable performances by Vidya Balan, Saif Ali Khan, and Sanjay Dutt, marked Vidya's entry into Bollywood.
Reflecting on the film's significance, Saif Ali Khan expressed his enthusiasm about its re-release, stating, “Experiencing Parineeta on the big screen again is thrilling, and I can't wait to see audience reactions. This film holds a special place in my heart for many reasons; it is one of the most beautifully crafted films I have been part of.”
Saif fondly remembered the late director Pradeep Sarkar, saying, “We miss Pradeep dearly; he was one of the most artistic directors I have collaborated with. His meticulous attention to detail brought immense beauty to the film. Vidya recently shared that you can feel Dada's presence in every frame, and I wholeheartedly agree. This re-release serves as a tribute to him, showcasing his remarkable work.”
Discussing his character, Saif noted, “When I took on the role in Parineeta, it was unlike the typical romantic leads I was accustomed to. Shekhar was a complex character—flawed and vulnerable—embarking on a journey of self-discovery. This role allowed me to explore a more nuanced performance, which I found incredibly fulfilling.”
Saif praised Vidya Balan's performance, stating, “Working alongside Vidya was a delight; she brought extraordinary grace and freshness to her debut role. This film is a testament to her talent, and the entire cast was exceptional. The set design and ambiance transported us to a nostalgic Kolkata, reminiscent of a time my mother would recall.”
He also highlighted the film's memorable music, which continues to resonate with audiences even two decades later. “The music was outstanding—I witnessed Sonu Nigam's incredible vocal talent firsthand. Shantanu Moitra's compositions were remarkable, and I cherish the soundtrack, which evokes fond memories,” he shared. “Parineeta holds immense significance for me; the imagery of playing guitar in a kurta and dhoti by the Hooghly River is unforgettable.”
Saif expressed gratitude towards filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra, stating, “I appreciate Mr. Vinod Chopra for entrusting me with this role; his support has been invaluable both personally and professionally. He has been a significant influence in my career, and I am thankful for the opportunity to be part of this film.”
This timeless romantic drama, adapted from Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay's renowned 1914 Bengali novel, has undergone restoration by Prasad Film Labs. Vinod Chopra Films is pioneering in India for restoring its entire film library in 8K resolution, with soundtracks remastered in 5.1 surround sound—a meticulous endeavor that took over four years. Some films are being restored at L’Immagine Ritrovata in Bologna, Italy, a prestigious lab known for its work on cinematic classics.
Parineeta is set to re-release starting August 29, 2025, for a limited one-week engagement.
