Exploring the Themes of 'Jab Khuli Kitaab'
Pankaj Kapur and Saurabh Shukla are teaming up for the Hindi film Jab Khuli Kitaab. The seasoned actors also shared insights on how contemporary audiences engage with narratives. Kapur emphasized that not every viewer leaves a violent film with harmful intentions. Additionally, Shukla reflected on the Netflix limited series Adolescence, expressing how its distinctly British narrative resonated with him.
Pankaj Kapur on the Importance of Emotional Storytelling
In a conversation with Zoom, both Kapur and Shukla addressed the creators' duty in storytelling. Kapur, the lead in Jab Khuli Kitaab, emphasized that conveying the story's emotions is paramount. He remarked, “Ultimately, it’s up to the audience to interpret what they take from the narrative. Some may perceive it in ways that even the writer, director, or actors never anticipated.”
Saurabh Shukla Reflects on 'Adolescence'
Shukla referenced Adolescence to illustrate how global stories can evoke deep emotions. He stated, “I wasn’t raised in Britain, nor did I witness such family dynamics, yet I found myself moved to tears, grasping the human experience depicted.”
Shukla continued, “I never questioned the motivations of the characters involved in the story; instead, it fostered a broader understanding of the world.” Jab Khuli Kitaab, which debuted on March 6, is inspired by an original play and also features Aparshakti Khurana, Nauheed Cyrusi, and Manasi Parekh in supporting roles.
