Tragic Incident Sparks Demands for Accountability

The recent passing of Bengali actor Rahul Arunoday Banerjee has ignited significant outrage within the entertainment sector, leading to renewed calls for stringent legal repercussions. Just a day after the incident, the All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) released a powerful statement demanding that a murder charge be filed against the producers of Bholebaba Paar Karega. They are also seeking a compensation of Rs 1 crore for Banerjee’s family, citing severe negligence and a disregard for essential safety measures during the filming at Talsari beach.

AICWA's Demands Following the Drowning Incident

AICWA characterized the event as more than a tragic accident, labeling it as a case of “prima facie criminal negligence.” The organization emphasized that shoots near water bodies, particularly the ocean, necessitate rigorous safety protocols, including the presence of trained divers, rescue teams, and emergency readiness. They argue that the lack of such vital precautions indicates significant failures on the part of the producers, the production company, and the broadcasting channel involved.

The association is insisting that an FIR be filed under murder charges against those accountable for the production. They are also calling for a thorough and prompt judicial inquiry into the incident to ensure those responsible are held accountable. Furthermore, AICWA has requested that the authorities provide Rs 1 crore in compensation to Banerjee’s family, with the expectation that this amount be reclaimed from the production companies involved.

In a bid to escalate the issue, AICWA has reached out to Mamata Banerjee and Mohan Charan Majhi, urging them to take swift action. The association has also suggested blacklisting the producers, the production house, and the broadcasting channel associated with the show, along with a suspension of their future projects until strict safety measures are guaranteed.

AICWA expressed that Rahul Banerjee’s death represents a significant loss for the Bengali entertainment community, asserting that the entire film industry stands united in mourning. However, they stressed that mere sorrow is insufficient and that justice must be pursued. The association reaffirmed its dedication to advocating for accountability, vowing to continue its efforts until those responsible are brought to justice.

This controversy unfolds against the backdrop of disclosures from Odisha Police regarding the circumstances of the actor’s demise. Officials reported that the incident took place around 5:30 PM during a shoot at Talsari beach, situated near the Odisha-West Bengal border. While filming a scene in shallow water, both Rahul Banerjee and co-actor Sweta Mishra reportedly slipped into a ditch.
