The full-length trailer for Nitesh Tiwari's cinematic interpretation of the Ramayana has been unveiled. Spanning just over four minutes, the trailer showcases the serene realm of Ram in Ayodhya, which is soon disrupted by the formidable Lankan monarch, Raavan.

Star-Studded Cast

The film features an impressive ensemble cast, including Ranbir Kapoor as Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Ravie Dubey as Lakshman, Yash as Raavan, and Sunny Deol portraying Hanuman. Other notable actors include Arun Govil (Dashrath), Lara Dutta (Kaikeyi), Sheeba Chadha (Manthara), Indira Krishnan (Kausalya), Rakul Preet Singh (Surpanakha), Kajal Aggarwal (Mandodari), and Kunal Kapoor (Indra).

Plot Overview

The trailer hints at the impending confrontation between Ram and Raavan. Raavan, who rules through tyranny, kidnaps Sita in retaliation for the actions of Ram and Lakshman against his sister, Surpanakha. With the support of Hanuman's forces, Ram and Lakshman embark on a mission to rescue Sita from Lanka.

Before facing Raavan, Ram must navigate familial challenges, particularly with Kaikeyi. He relinquishes his claim to the throne and ventures into the forest alongside Sita and Lakshman.

The screenplay is crafted by Nitesh Tiwari and Sridhar Raghavan, with music composed by AR Rahman and a background score by Oscar-winning composer Hans Zimmer, marking his debut in Indian cinema. Cinematography is handled by Pankaj Kumar and Mahesh Limaye.

This ambitious project is being produced in two parts, with the first installment set for a Diwali release this year, while the second part is scheduled for 2027.

Production Companies and Distribution

The film is a labor of love for Namit Malhotra's Prime Focus Studios, where he also serves as CEO of the award-winning visual effects company DNEG, which contributed to the film's visual effects. Yash's Monster Mind Creations is another production partner, and Karan Johar's Dharma Productions will handle distribution across India. An IMAX version of Ramayana: Part 1 will also be available.

Trailer Launch Event

The trailer was launched on June 20 in Delhi, hosted by poet Kumar Vishwas, who highlighted the epic's cultural importance. The event featured a performance by sitar artist Rishab Rikhiram Sharma, with Vishwas also penning lyrics for AR Rahman's compositions. Reports indicate that Ranbir Kapoor led the audience in chanting 'Jai Shri Ram' during the event, which was attended by various religious figures, including Anandmurti Gurumaa.
