Actor Nicholas Hoult is gearing up to portray another memorable villain, having been cast as Gilderoy Lockhart in the forthcoming HBO adaptation of the Harry Potter franchise. This casting comes on the heels of Hoult's recent role as Lex Luthor in James Gunn’s Superman. Lockhart, a character infamous for his narcissism and obsession with fame, will appear in the second season, which will adapt the storyline from the second book, "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets."

According to reports, the 36-year-old actor has officially secured the role of the Defence Against the Dark Arts instructor. In the original film series, this character was brought to life by Kenneth Branagh. Within the story, Gilderoy Lockhart is appointed by Albus Dumbledore to teach at Hogwarts, where he becomes a source of both humor and annoyance for Harry Potter and his companions during their second year. Lockhart is characterized as a five-time recipient of Witch Weekly’s Most Charming Smile Award and is known for his numerous publications claiming encounters with dark creatures.

This role marks Hoult's third major television project, following his appearances in the British teen drama "Skins" and the Hulu comedy "The Great," for which he earned nominations for both an Emmy and a Golden Globe.
