He noted that India has produced remarkable films in the past that unfortunately did not receive Academy recognition, but he believes that showcasing human stories and emotions is crucial. "I would love to see films like Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Mere Pyare Prime Minister and Meghna Gulzar’s Chhapaak represent India at the Academy Awards," Gulzar remarked. It is worth mentioning that he won the Academy Award for Best Original Song in 2009 for the song Jai Ho from Slumdog Millionaire.



Meanwhile, Javed Akhtar, a five-time National Film Award winner, described the decision as "understandable" and posed a rhetorical question: "In the Olympics, do humans race against racing cars?"
