Nepal Halts Screening of 'Udta Teer' Amid Controversy
Nepal's Censor Board Blocks Film Release
Nepal's Central Film Censor Board has put a stop to the screening of the film 'Udta Teer', raising concerns about its potential release in the country. The movie is set to debut in India on October 23.
Reasons Behind the Film's Denial in Nepal
The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology in Nepal has sent an official communication to the film's distributor, National Cine Group Nepal, indicating that the film cannot be screened publicly as per Section 8(3) of the National Cinema (Production, Exhibition, and Distribution) Act, 2026.
The Central Film Censor Board assessed the submitted content and concluded that it falls under a category that is legally prohibited. As a result, the film was denied approval for public viewing.
Connection to India-Pakistan Tensions?
There are reports suggesting that 'Udta Teer' addresses the ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan, which may have influenced the Censor Board's ruling. However, the Ministry's letter does not detail the specific scenes or content that led to the film's ban.
Nepal's cinema regulations allow for the prohibition of films if their content is considered detrimental to national interests or community welfare. This is the basis for the denial of 'Udta Teer' for public screening in Nepal.
Release Date for 'Udta Teer'
'Udta Teer' stars Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan in leading roles, directed by Aakash Kaushik. The film is categorized as an action-comedy and is scheduled for release in Indian theaters on Friday, October 23.
