Tragic Incident in Pune Sparks Nationwide Anger
A recent horrific case of rape and murder in Pune has sent shockwaves across the country. On May 1, a 65-year-old man allegedly assaulted and killed a four-year-old girl in Nasrapur village. This tragic event has led to widespread protests, with demonstrators blocking the Mumbai-Bengaluru Highway near Navale Bridge in Pune. The police have apprehended the suspect, and the case is currently under judicial review.
Riteish Deshmukh Speaks Out Against the Atrocity
Actor Riteish Deshmukh, who recently starred in the film Raja Shivaji as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, has publicly condemned this heinous act and called for stringent measures against the perpetrator. While promoting his film, which has garnered over Rs 20 crore within its first two days of release, Deshmukh expressed his outrage during a media interaction. He stated that the incident is profoundly disturbing and that the public's anger is justified. He urged the government to ensure swift justice, suggesting that the case should be expedited through a fast-track court.
Deshmukh emphasized that the era of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was vastly different from today, highlighting the existence of numerous laws designed to address such crimes. He concluded by stating, “The sooner justice is served, the better it will be.”
Details of the Pune Minor's Case
In this tragic case, the accused reportedly lured the young girl under the guise of offering her food, ultimately leading to her assault and murder. Police investigations revealed CCTV footage from a nearby residence that captured the suspect with the child. The authorities have filed charges against him under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Following his arrest, he has been remanded in police custody until May 7. After prolonged protests from the local community, the child's last rites were conducted at a Pune crematorium, under heavy police presence.
