Nasser Hussain Predicts Semifinalists for ICC Women's T20 World Cup
Hussain's Predictions for the Semifinals
Nasser Hussain, the former captain of England, has made his predictions for the upcoming ICC Women's T20 World Cup, forecasting that New Zealand, Australia, England, and India will secure spots in the semifinals. The tournament is set to commence on June 12 in the UK, with the opening match featuring England against Sri Lanka in Birmingham. India will kick off their campaign against Pakistan on June 14 in the same city.
Semifinal Favorites
Hussain confidently named Australia, the hosts England, reigning World Cup champions India, and current titleholders New Zealand as the four teams most likely to advance to the knockout rounds. "Australia and England are my top picks," he stated during an episode of The ICC Review. He also mentioned the potential for West Indies to surprise, but ultimately chose New Zealand as his third pick.
India's Strong Performance
When discussing the runners-up from the last two tournaments, South Africa and India, Hussain leaned towards India, citing their ability to elevate their performance in crucial matches. "India has shown they can compete at a high level, especially in knockout scenarios, as evidenced by their victories over Australia and South Africa in the 50-over World Cup," he noted.
West Indies as Dark Horses
Hussain also highlighted the West Indies, the 2016 champions, as a potential dark horse in the tournament. He remarked, "Despite not being mentioned often, the West Indies have a strong chance to reach the semifinals. With players like Hayley Matthews and Deandra Dottin returning, they could surprise many."
