Milly Alcock's Supergirl Struggles at Indian Box Office
Supergirl's Modest Opening in India
Milly Alcock's Supergirl debuted quietly at the Indian box office following its release on June 26, 2026. Despite expectations for a strong opening due to the franchise's popularity and Alcock's involvement, initial earnings suggest a sluggish start in the Indian market. Directed by Craig Gillespie, the film narrates the journey of Kara Zor-El, also known as Supergirl, as she embarks on a vengeful quest across the galaxy. The cast includes Matthias Schoenaerts, Eve Ridley, David Krumholtz, Emily Beecham, David Corenswet, and Jason Momoa, with production led by Peter Safran and James Gunn of DC Studios.
Slow Box Office Performance
Supergirl's Slow Start in India
As reported by trade analysts, Supergirl garnered an estimated net of Rs 1.14 crore on its third day, bringing its total net collection to approximately Rs 3.94 crore. The film is currently being screened in 2,387 locations across the country, with final figures still being compiled. The film had a decent opening weekend, earning around Rs 1.40 crore on its first day, with similar earnings on the second day, resulting in a two-day total of Rs 2.80 crore. Although the film generated excitement for its action-packed narrative, audience turnout has been disappointing. The occupancy rate on Day 2 was 11.5% from 2,556 shows, slightly down from the opening day's 11.7% from nearly 3,000 shows.
Language-wise Performance
Supergirl: Language-wise Reception
The film was released in multiple languages, including English, Hindi, and Tamil, with the English version performing the best. It earned nearly Rs 1.05 crore with a 14% occupancy from 1,415 shows. The Hindi version managed to collect around Rs 26 lakh with a lower occupancy of 6% from 899 shows. In contrast, the Tamil version earned approximately Rs 9 lakh from 242 shows, achieving a higher occupancy rate of nearly 17%. Reports indicate that night shows received the best response, with an occupancy of about 19.11%, while morning shows lagged behind at around 9.89%.
Facing Stiff Competition
Supergirl Faces Tough Competition
The superhero film is encountering significant competition both locally and internationally. A major rival is Welcome to the Jungle, featuring Akshay Kumar and Suniel Shetty, which has opened to much stronger numbers in India. Additionally, it competes with the globally successful franchise Toy Story 5, which continues to attract family audiences, particularly children. Despite being based on a well-known comic-book character, Supergirl has struggled to make a substantial impact at the Indian box office amidst a crowded release schedule.
