Millie Bobby Brown is set to bring her debut novel, Nineteen Steps, to the big screen, and she has secured a prominent director for the project. Oscar-winning filmmaker Tom Hooper will direct the adaptation, which is currently in the development phase and is expected to be available on Netflix, following the trend of many of Brown's previous works. The novel, published in 2023, tells the story of an 18-year-old girl navigating life in wartime East London, inspired by her grandmother's experiences.

As reported by a leading entertainment outlet, Hooper, known for acclaimed films like The King’s Speech and Les Misérables, will be directing the film. The screenplay will be adapted by Anthony McCarten, recognized for his work on Bohemian Rhapsody and The Theory of Everything. Brown, alongside her husband Jake Bongiovi, will produce the film in collaboration with Jonathan Eirich from Rideback, a production company that has also supported projects like Lilo & Stitch and Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender.

Nineteen Steps has made its way onto the New York Times bestseller list and was co-authored by Brown and Kathleen McGurl. The narrative centers around a teenager named Nellie Morris, who lives in East London during World War II. Facing the challenges of bombings, rationing, and separation from family, Nellie also finds love with an American airman named Ray. The story incorporates the historical Bethnal Green Tube disaster, where 173 individuals lost their lives in a stampede while seeking refuge during an air raid. Hooper, who also directed The Danish Girl, is set to helm another project, Photograph 51, featuring Natalie Portman, which is based on the life of scientist Rosalind Franklin.

Following the conclusion of Stranger Things in December 2025, Brown was initially slated to portray Olympic gymnast Kerri Strug in the biopic Perfect, but she has since exited the project due to creative differences. Later this year, she will reprise her role in Netflix's Enola Holmes 3, alongside Henry Cavill, Helena Bonham Carter, and Louis Partridge.

Additionally, she is set to star in the romantic comedy Just Picture It with Gabriel LaBelle, also for Netflix. Furthermore, Brown is attached to lead the supernatural series Prism, where she will play Cassie, a young woman with the ability to communicate with spirits.
