Controversy Erupts Over Masoom Sharma's Language
Masoom Sharma, a well-known Haryanvi singer, songwriter, and composer, has landed in trouble for his inappropriate remarks during a cultural event at DAV (PG) College in Dehradun. Recognized for his popular songs like Chambal Ke Dakku and Lofer, Sharma reportedly lashed out at an individual he accused of trying to harm him. After addressing the audience, he allegedly used abusive language towards the supposed attacker. This incident occurred after he shared the stage with Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and raised concerns about his safety. The event has ignited considerable controversy, resulting in a formal complaint against him. A student representative has accused him of "offending public sentiments and disrupting the event's decorum."
Legal Action Against Masoom Sharma
The Uttarakhand Police have begun legal proceedings against Sharma for his offensive language during the festival. The complaint was filed by Pranchal Nauni, a member of the college’s Satyam Shivam student organization. Authorities have indicated that Sharma faces charges under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertain to indecent conduct, derogatory remarks, disrespect towards women, and criminal threats. An investigation is currently underway.
Meanwhile, videos of the incident have gone viral on social media platforms.
Sharma Issues Apology
Sharma has publicly apologized for his choice of words, explaining that he was under immense pressure due to anxiety and lack of sleep caused by the alleged threat. MLA Umesh Kumar, who was present on stage, mentioned that he tried to intervene but was pushed aside. He stated, “For the past week, a gangster from Haryana had been following him and even showed up in Dehradun, outside his hotel. He was under significant stress throughout the night. However, using foul language in an educational setting is unacceptable. I cannot support that.” He acknowledged that the protests are justified but warned against those who might misrepresent the facts and escalate tensions.
