Marvel's Avengers: Endgame Encore Outshines Supergirl at the Box Office!
Avengers: Endgame Encore Breaks Records
The re-release of Marvel Studios' blockbuster, Avengers: Endgame, now known as Avengers: Endgame Encore, has made headlines by exceeding the total global earnings of the DC Universe film, Supergirl. Despite being a re-entry into theaters for a film already accessible on streaming services, it has managed to outdo the box office performance of the Milly Alcock-starring film in less than two weeks.
As reported by Box Office Mojo, the Encore version has amassed over $126.6 million worldwide within its first 11 days. In contrast, Supergirl, which premiered in June, wrapped up its theatrical run with a total of around $126.5 million. This achievement underscores the Avengers franchise's enduring commercial appeal, even as the re-release faces a notable drop in domestic ticket sales.
Domestic Box Office Performance
In the domestic market, Avengers: Endgame Encore has encountered difficulties, particularly during its second weekend. The film saw a significant decline in attendance, earning an estimated $4.5 million during its second three-day weekend in North America. Following this, it garnered $345,000 on its second Monday across 3,000 screens, reflecting an 80% drop compared to the previous Monday. To date, the re-release has brought in $36.6 million at the domestic box office.
While the Encore version has successfully surpassed Supergirl's global earnings, the original Avengers: Endgame is still short of a significant domestic milestone. It has crossed the $895 million mark in North America but is projected to face challenges in reaching the $900 million threshold, remaining about $5 million shy. The original release of Avengers: Endgame famously overtook Avatar to become the highest-grossing film globally. The Encore edition, featuring additional footage, was made available to audiences on September 25.
