Malti Chahar Speaks Out on Rs 370 Biryani Controversy
Malti Chahar's Response to the Controversy
Malti Chahar, known for her participation in Salman Khan's Bigg Boss 19, has voiced her opinion regarding the recent uproar over the Rs 370 biryani incident that has ignited significant discussions online. The controversy originated when a man at Pranit More's stand-up comedy show made inappropriate comments about spending money on a date and his sexual expectations. This led to widespread criticism on social media, particularly aimed at Pranit for his laughter during the exchange. Although he has since apologized and deleted the video, the backlash continues to intensify. Here’s Malti’s take on the situation.
Malti Chahar's Take on the Biryani Controversy
Malti, who is the sister of cricketer Deepak Chahar, expressed her thoughts on X, stating, "The Rs 370 biryani and Peddi incident highlight why many women are reluctant to marry, value their independence, and often choose to share expenses. Some women even fully support their partners financially." She emphasized that despite these efforts, women still face objectification, and their consent is often trivialized. Malti pointed out that after years of fighting for equality, respect, and dignity, society still grapples with outdated mindsets. She urged mothers and future mothers to instill in their sons the importance of respecting women and understanding consent.
Furthermore, she remarked that while some may dismiss such content as mere jokes or entertainment, media plays a crucial role in shaping cultural norms, and normalized ideas can significantly affect women's real-life experiences. She concluded by stating that while creators respond to market demands, consumers also have a duty to be conscious of what they endorse and promote.
Understanding the Connection Between the Peddi Controversy and the Biryani Row
Prior to the uproar over the Rs 370 biryani, the South Indian sports drama Peddi faced backlash for a scene where Janhvi Kapoor's character was kissed without her consent. This portrayal was met with disapproval, prompting criticism of the filmmakers. Although Janhvi did not directly respond to the backlash, director Buchi Babu Sana clarified his intentions and later announced the removal of the controversial scene and other objectionable content from the film. Both incidents have sparked vital discussions about women's consent and its portrayal in media.
Returning to the Pranit More controversy, the comedian has recently issued an apology amid intense scrutiny. However, as the situation escalated, he has reportedly chosen to step back from social media, leading to the deactivation of his Instagram account. Meanwhile, the individual who made the inappropriate remarks has been terminated from his job.
