Mahesh Bhatt and Anu Malik Reunite for Theatrical Masterpiece 'Wo Subah Hum Hi Se Aayegi'
A New Chapter in Collaboration
Renowned director Mahesh Bhatt and celebrated music composer Anu Malik have a history of successful collaborations, including the films Zakhm (1998) and Sir (1993), as well as the TV film Phir Teri Kahani Yaad Aayee. They are now joining forces once more for Bhatt's latest theatrical venture, Wo Subah Hum Hi Se Aayegi. This original play is set to debut in Mumbai on July 5 and is anticipated to be a significant artistic partnership.
Produced by Mahesh Bhatt and directed by Tariquee Hameed, the play features talented theatre actor Imran Zahid and actress Namitaa Sachdeva. In an exclusive interview, Bhatt shared his thoughts on reuniting with Malik, reflecting on their longstanding relationship and the impact of Malik's late father, Sardar Malik, on his career.
Bhatt expressed, “Whenever I think of Anu, I cannot separate him from the memory of his father. He was an incredibly talented composer who faced challenges in a competitive industry. His grace and humility often overshadowed his true potential.”
He continued, “Anu witnessed both his father's brilliance and the struggles that followed, which deeply influenced him. These experiences instilled in him a relentless drive to evolve and appreciate success.”
Discussing Malik's musical talent, Bhatt noted that Malik's enthusiasm remains undiminished. “Every project he takes on is approached with the same vigor and curiosity I admired years ago,” he remarked.
“Working with him transcends mere professionalism; it feels like a natural extension of our bond. The trust we share has flourished over the years, and it beautifully manifested in Wo Subah Hum Hi Se Aayegi.”
Bhatt elaborated on why Malik was the ideal choice for this stage production, highlighting his innate understanding of the story's emotional depth. “When he agreed to compose for the play, I was reminded of his enduring quality—his ability to respond to sincerity. He recognized this project as a heartfelt endeavor rather than a commercial one, which resonated with me.”
According to Bhatt, Malik's music enhances the play's emotional narrative without overshadowing it, almost acting as a character in its own right. “That’s the Anu Malik I admire—not just a composer of memorable tunes, but an artist who grasps the essence of a story before crafting a single note.”
Reflecting on his return to theatre, Bhatt stated, “I never truly departed from theatre. My work, from Arth to Daddy, Zakhm to Hamari Adhuri Kahani, has always been theatre in cinematic form. Now, I find myself returning to the core of my craft.”
Inspired by the iconic lines of Sahir Ludhianvi, Wo Subah Hum Hi Se Aayegi embodies the belief that a new dawn is achieved not by chance, but through the courage of individuals embracing their authentic selves.
