A Personal Renovation Journey

Lucy Hale has shared insights into the deeply personal three-year renovation of her Los Angeles residence, a project that paralleled her own path to sobriety. The actress, best known for her role in the popular series Pretty Little Liars, acquired the 1940s Spanish-style estate in 2019 for $2.95 million. Located behind a gated entrance in Studio City, the 2,750-square-foot home initially showcased a rustic charm with dark hues and traditional finishes.

After deciding to embrace sobriety in 2022, Hale felt a strong urge to transform her living space to reflect her new life chapter. Working alongside designers Ashley Drost and Marie Trohman, she shifted from the home's original subdued color scheme to a vibrant, eclectic style that she describes as her unique interpretation of Good Witchy Style. The extensive renovation, which took three years, introduced lively shades of aubergine and pink, along with quirky furniture and distinctive decor, including a decorative sheep in the entryway.

A Healing Space

A Sanctuary for Personal Growth

For Hale, this house has become more than just a place to live; it has evolved into a sanctuary for healing and self-exploration. During a recent home tour, the 37-year-old actress reflected on the importance of her surroundings, sharing that she experienced both heartbreak and the start of her sobriety within these walls. She highlighted that the home's transformation was a conscious effort to ensure her environment mirrored her growth into adulthood, describing her experience of living there at this point in her life as divine.

The architectural features of the house, including high ceilings, walnut flooring, and classic tilework, remain intact, but the interior ambiance has been entirely reimagined. The property, set on nearly an acre, now boasts a layout that emphasizes color and personality, contrasting sharply with the dark, rustic style that characterized the home when she first bought it.

Honesty About Sobriety

Reflecting on the Path to Sobriety

Hale has been open about her long-standing battle with substance abuse and her commitment to sobriety. In a 2023 episode of The Diary of a CEO podcast, she revealed that her journey toward sobriety began at the age of 20. She candidly discussed the patience required to achieve her goals, noting that it took years of hard work to find stability.

During the podcast, Hale explained that she previously turned to alcohol to calm her racing thoughts, mistakenly believing it helped her true self to surface. She later recognized that drinking only intensified the anger and pain she had been trying to suppress. By choosing a sober lifestyle, Hale has discovered a way to manage her restless mind without relying on substances. Today, she continues to celebrate her sobriety milestones, viewing her home as a tangible representation of the peace and clarity she has diligently pursued.
