Karisma Kapoor's Remarkable 35-Year Journey in Cinema

Karisma Kapoor has officially celebrated 35 years in the film industry. Her career began with the release of her debut film, Prem Qaidi, which starred Harish and hit theaters on June 21, 1991. Although the film did not achieve commercial success, it marked the start of Karisma's journey in acting. Reflecting on this milestone, she revealed that her first film prevented her from pursuing higher education. Karisma attended junior college briefly before diving into her acting career at just 17 years old.

Why Did Karisma Kapoor Skip College?

In an interview with a media outlet, Karisma shared memories of landing her first role in Prem Qaidi during the 1990s, directed by K Murali Mohana Rao. She recalled spending only a few days in junior college before transitioning directly to the film set after completing school. Looking back, she remarked, “My debut film premiered just four days before I turned 17. I vividly remember the mahurat shot. Time has truly flown.” She also mentioned that the lighting during the 90s was quite harsh, making it challenging for actors to keep their eyes open.

Karisma noted that actors often perform better with sync sound, as the air-conditioned dubbing rooms create a more conducive environment for evoking emotions.

Karisma Kapoor's Experience with Shyam Benegal

Reflecting on her career evolution, Karisma acknowledged the advancements in technology that have simplified the work for film crews. One of her most significant projects was Zubeidaa, which garnered her critical acclaim. She expressed that working with renowned director Shyam Benegal was a transformative experience, stating, “I learned so much about the behind-the-scenes process through our conversations. It was truly enriching.”
