Kangana Ranaut Sounds Alarm on Hindi Film Industry's Future: 'It May Soon Disappear'
Kangana Ranaut's Concerns About Bollywood's Decline
Recently, the struggles of Bollywood have sparked considerable discussion. Actress and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut, known for her outspoken nature, has weighed in on this issue. In a recent interview, the star of Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata expressed her concerns that the Hindi film industry is in jeopardy and could potentially "cease to exist." She commented on the reception of films led by both male and female actors, suggesting that the ongoing debates around this topic are trivial. "The essential aspect is that we must not neglect the experience of watching films in theaters," she stated.
Kangana's Warning About the Future of Hindi Cinema
Kangana shared her thoughts with NDTV, stating, "The community experiences we have left are quite limited, and the theater experience is one of them. Given the current decline in the film industry, it won't be long before it disappears... because films are not performing well. If this trend continues, the Hindi film industry may not survive." When asked about the notable successes of films like Dhurandhar and Saiyaara, she remarked that occasional blockbuster hits are not enough to sustain the industry. She highlighted the necessity for more films and noted that even older movies are being re-released in theaters due to a shortage of new content. Furthermore, she pointed out that the shift towards digital viewing is adversely affecting theater attendance, warning that cinemas are already facing significant challenges. She urged audiences to make it a habit to enjoy films in theaters as a family outing.
Kangana also attributed this shift in audience habits to the growing popularity of OTT platforms and short-form content. She noted that viewers today are "spoilt for choice" with an abundance of options available on both national and international platforms, as well as through social media clips.
Kangana's Latest Project
Kangana stars in Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata, which debuted in theaters on June 12. Directed by Manoj Tapadia, the film focuses on the 26/11 attacks in Mumbai. In this project, Kangana plays a nurse at Cama Hospital, sharing the screen with Smita Tambe, Girija Oak Godbole, Esha Dey, Rasika Agashe, Prasad Oak, and others. Despite its moderate reviews, the film struggled to attract significant box office interest, earning only Rs 1 crore on its opening day.
