Kangana Ranaut Champions Dhurandhar Franchise as a Milestone for Hindi Cinema
Kangana Ranaut's Enthusiastic Endorsement of Dhurandhar
Kangana Ranaut has expressed her strong endorsement for the Dhurandhar franchise, helmed by Aditya Dhar and featuring Ranveer Singh, labeling it a transformative force in Hindi cinema. In a recent discussion, she highlighted how the film has successfully achieved what many others have struggled with: enticing audiences back to theaters. Kangana commended the franchise for its ability to narrate stories that resonate deeply with the Indian populace, while also advocating for a dedicated film about National Security Adviser Ajit Doval.
Insights from Kangana on Dhurandhar 2
In her remarks, Kangana did not shy away from showering praise on the film. She noted that Bollywood had been gradually losing its audience to South Indian cinema, which she believes remains more connected to cultural roots and regional identity. "The film industry was becoming increasingly detached from the nation. Audience engagement was dwindling, studios were struggling, and viewers were losing interest in these films," she stated during a podcast. She further asserted that Dhurandhar has altered this trend, saying, "With such pertinent films, audiences are eager to watch. The nation has recognized these films. The box office success reflects how people are drawn to their own narratives. Dhurandhar has rejuvenated the film industry and instilled new optimism," Kangana remarked.
Previously, at the International Film Festival of Delhi 2026, Kangana articulated her views, describing Dhurandhar 2 as a representation of 'New India', deeply rooted in cultural values and patriotism. She perceives the franchise as emblematic of a broader cultural evolution within Indian cinema.
The Dhurandhar series has recently made history as the first Indian film franchise to surpass the Rs 3,000 crore milestone at the global box office. The latest installment, Dhurandhar The Revenge, has alone garnered over Rs 1,700 crore worldwide and continues to perform well in various markets.
Kangana Praises R Madhavan and Advocates for a Film on Ajit Doval
While acknowledging the entire cast, Kangana Ranaut gave special recognition to her co-star R Madhavan from Tanu Weds Manu. In Dhurandhar, Madhavan portrays a character believed to be inspired by Ajit Doval, India's National Security Adviser. "Madhavan delivered an outstanding performance. Having met Ajit Doval ji, I can attest to his formidable presence. I believe a standalone film on Ajit Doval is warranted to truly capture his essence. However, Madhavan came very close to embodying that character. He is an exceptional actor," Kangana commented.
In the film, R Madhavan plays Ajay Sanyal, the Director of the Intelligence Bureau, who was pivotal during the 1999 Kandahar hijacking negotiations. Dhurandhar 2 features a star-studded cast including Ranveer Singh, Sara Arjun, Sanjay Dutt, R Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, Gaurav Gera, and Rakesh Bedi, produced by Jyoti Deshpande, Aditya Dhar, and Lokesh Dhar under Jio Studios and B62 Studios.
