Kamal Haasan and Chiranjeevi Call for Unified Indian Cinema
Both actors, who began their illustrious careers in the 1970s, were recognized for their significant contributions to the film industry on March 19, 2026. Kamal Haasan received the Paidi Jairaj Award, while Chiranjeevi was honored with the NTR National Award. In his acceptance speech, Kamal fondly reflected on their long-standing friendship, humorously noting that while Chiranjeevi holds seniority in politics, he is the junior in acting.
He urged Telangana's Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to eliminate regional distinctions such as Tollywood, Kollywood, and Bollywood, advocating for a singular, unified Indian cinema. Kamal emphasized that this revival would not only enhance recognition but also celebrate artistic bravery and cultural heritage.
Expressing his gratitude on social media, Kamal thanked the Telangana government for the honor and acknowledged the efforts of the event organizers.
Chiranjeevi's Vision for Global Cinema
Chiranjeevi echoed Kamal's sentiments, envisioning Hyderabad as a global cinema hub. He drew parallels with the international success of K-pop and K-drama from South Korea, highlighting how culture can stimulate economic growth. He stated, “Our country should view cinema as a means to enhance both the economy and our global standing.”
Chiranjeevi also expressed hope that Andhra Pradesh would take cues from Telangana's Gaddar Awards to reinstate the Nandi Awards, which celebrate artistic excellence.
