Jordan Firstman's Directorial Debut at Cannes

Jordan Firstman, known for his roles in I Love LA and English Teacher, has transformed his breakup experience into his debut film, Club Kid. This feature is competing in the Un Certain Regard section at the prestigious 79th Cannes Film Festival. Ahead of the film's premiere, Firstman was seen sharing affectionate moments with his cast, including a kiss with Diego Calva, who stars alongside him in the film. The comedy-drama also features Cara Delevingne and young actor Reggie Absolom.

Playful Moments Before the Premiere

During the photocall for Club Kid, Firstman showcased his playful side, kissing both Diego Calva and Cara Delevingne, and even lifting young Absolom, bringing laughter to the event. In this English-language film, Firstman portrays Peter, a gay man in New York whose life changes dramatically with the arrival of his son, played by Absolom. As an underground party promoter, Peter faces the challenge of adapting his lifestyle to care for his child.

Scheduled for its world premiere on May 15 at Cannes, Firstman expressed mixed feelings about the screening, wondering how audiences would react and if distributors would be interested. In a candid interview with Vanity Fair, he revealed that Club Kid was inspired by the emotional turmoil following the end of a significant relationship, stating, "It’s hard for me to talk about—there is just so much emotion tied to this for me."

Firstman emphasized that the film primarily explores the father-son dynamic, highlighting how Peter introduces his son to the vibrant queer nightclub culture. The casting of Absolom came after Firstman reviewed numerous audition tapes from London, while Cara Delevingne is believed to portray the boy's mother.

Jordan Firstman's Upcoming Projects

Firstman is set to return for the second season of I Love LA on HBO, a series created by Rachel Sennott, featuring a talented cast including Odessa A'zion, True Whitaker, and Josh Hutcherson from The Hunger Games. Recently, he made a cameo appearance in the Emmy-winning show Hacks, alongside Trisha Paytas, Jean Smart, and Kaitlin Olson, as part of a celebrity edition of The Amazing Race.
