The excitement surrounding this event is palpable as fans await further details on Cena's retirement tour and potential matchups.

Anticipation Grows for John Cena's Last Match

Excitement is building around John Cena's final WWE match, which is tentatively set for December 2025. Although specific details remain scarce, speculation suggests that WWE plans to feature this match as the main event for the last Saturday Night’s Main Event of the year. Reports indicate that WWE aims to schedule this event to compete directly with AEW.

WWE has a history of counter-programming AEW events, often scheduling their own shows like SNME or NXT against AEW's weekend pay-per-views. Cena's retirement tour is expected to be part of this strategy, although the exact date for his last match has yet to be confirmed.

During a discussion on Wrestling Observer Live, Bryan Alvarez mentioned that WWE is contemplating a date change for Cena's final match. Originally slated for December 13, there is a possibility it could be moved to December 27, coinciding with AEW's World’s End PPV.

Alvarez elaborated that the initial plan was for Cena's match to occur in early December during Saturday Night’s Main Event, but discussions are underway to have it clash with AEW World’s End.

“So, it will be head-to-head with AEW World’s End. And we did talk about how there was going to be one more of these before the year was out. And I think they’re going to try and put the final John Cena match on Saturday Night’s Main Event in Boston, head-to-head with World’s End. So, we’ll see if that ends up happening.”

In addition to this, WWE is reportedly planning to leverage Brock Lesnar's return to intensify competition with AEW by scheduling a premium live event on the same day as AEW All Out in September. Lesnar is expected to headline that event, with Cena rumored to be his opponent.

John Cena Discusses His Final Opponent in WWE

As of now, WWE has not finalized the details of Cena's retirement tour. It remains uncertain whether his last match will indeed be against AEW. In a conversation with a media outlet, Cena revealed that he has never chosen his opponent in WWE, and he intends to maintain that philosophy for his final bout.

“I’ve been doing this for 23 years, and I’ve never once chosen my opponent,” Cena stated. “I’ve always lived by the philosophy that life will give you opportunities every single day, and you have to do the best you can every single day with what life gives you. So whoever challenges me for that last match, I’m going to give it my best shot.”
