Is the Teaser for Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana a Marketing Strategy Gone Wrong?

The teaser for Nitesh Tiwari's upcoming film Ramayana has stirred controversy online, with claims that a low-quality preview of Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama was intentionally released to generate buzz. Content creator Dhruv Parikshit suggested that the filmmakers aimed for free publicity through online discussions. While he later clarified that the visual effects were improving, the initial comments have fueled speculation. The film, featuring a star-studded cast, is set for a Diwali 2026 release. Read on to explore the details of this unfolding story.

Controversy Surrounds Ramayana's Teaser Release

Director Nitesh Tiwari's highly anticipated mythological film Ramayana has sparked a fresh wave of online debate. A content creator has claimed that the producers deliberately released a low-quality preview featuring Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama to stir up conversation and excitement. This theory has gained traction, especially as the film's release date approaches, although no official statement has been made by the filmmakers to confirm or deny this speculation.

The film boasts a star-studded cast, including Sai Pallavi, Yash, Sunny Deol, Ravi Dubey, and Kajal Aggarwal, among others.

Details of the Viral Claim

Reports indicate that earlier this week, the Ramayana team organized a special event for select digital creators to visit the film's sets. During this event, they interacted with director Nitesh Tiwari, producer Namit Malhotra, and actors like Ranbir Kapoor and Yash. Content creator Dhruv Parikshit was among those present and later shared his insights on social media.

When discussing the film's visual effects, Dhruv expressed admiration for what he had seen, comparing its world-building to that of major international films. However, he also mentioned that a member of the VFX team hinted that the teaser featuring Ranbir Kapoor was intentionally released in a lower quality, despite the existence of superior footage. This now-deleted comment suggested that the filmmakers might have aimed to generate 'free' publicity through online discussions and critiques.

Dhruv recounted a conversation with a VFX artist, who indicated that the creators had chosen to upload the less polished version of the teaser. He stated, "They had better versions of those scenes, yet they opted for the incomplete one. Why? Because discussions and critiques online lead to free marketing," he shared.

About the Controversial Video

For those who may not be aware, the video in question circulated on fan pages several months ago, showcasing Ranbir Kapoor in his role as Lord Ram. While many viewers praised the film's ambitious scale, others criticized the CGI and creature designs, calling for improvements before the film's release. The production team later reassured fans that the visual effects would be refined ahead of the theatrical launch.

Dhruv's Clarification

After his initial comment gained attention, Dhruv later revised his statement, emphasizing that the visual effects were progressing well and that some of the unfinished footage shown during the visit had likely been updated months ago. He praised the character designs and described the film's visual world as a beautiful fantasy interpretation of Indian culture.

In his updated comment, Dhruv stated, "VFX pe kaam chal raha hai, and kaafi accha kaam ho bhi Gaya hai. Humko kuch incomplete footages bhi dikhaye the and I believe vo already complete ho chuke hain mahino pahle hi (Work on the VFX is ongoing and it is good. We were shown some incomplete footage but I believe it is all complete). And bhai, character designs!! They're gorgeous! They're absolutely wonderful. It is more like a very beautiful fantasy world, but in an Indian setting. It is going to be a great theatrical experience (sic)."

Despite the deletion of his original comment, screenshots circulated widely on social media, fueling further speculation. Neither director Nitesh Tiwari nor producer Namit Malhotra has addressed the claims regarding the teaser's visual effects. Ramayana is slated for release during Diwali 2026, with a sequel expected a year later.
