Support for Student Protests Grows in Bollywood

Notable stars like Salman Khan, Alia Bhatt, Sonakshi Sinha, and Kareena Kapoor have taken to their social media platforms to show solidarity with the participants of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protests. Among those who have shared their thoughts is Ira Khan, the daughter of renowned actor Aamir Khan, who has addressed her previous silence on the issue.
On Thursday, Ira Khan posted an insightful video on her Instagram, where she shared her viewpoint. She began by highlighting her dedication to mental health advocacy, stating, “I am indeed an advocate for mental health, and I seek your attention whenever I discuss these matters. Mental health encompasses all aspects of life.” She elaborated on her reasons for not engaging in discussions about the protests, suggesting that she felt she had nothing substantial to add.
Khan mentioned that she has been consciously avoiding news and social media to safeguard her mental health. “I typically steer clear of it; I don’t browse my explore page, and I haven’t watched any videos depicting violence or protests,” she noted. While she is aware of the protests, she admitted to not allowing herself to emotionally engage, as it tends to overwhelm her and evoke feelings of helplessness.
In addressing the consequences of her silence, Ira Khan made it clear that her lack of public statements should not be interpreted as apathy. “If my silence has suggested in any way that I don’t care, I apologize; that was never my intention,” she expressed. She also acknowledged her privilege in being able to distance herself from distressing news and conveyed her wish to find a way to support the cause that resonates with her values.
