Reflections on Divorce and Parenting
In a special Mother’s Day series titled Letters To My Mom, Neelima opened up about the struggles during this tumultuous time. She stated, "I didn’t have support from my then-partner, which likely resulted in several mistakes on my part. I was quite young and preoccupied with my own circumstances as the marriage ended. My child had to witness that, and it was not easy for him. However, he was fortunate to have wonderful grandparents who stepped in as great parental figures, providing us with support. Until he was nine, he lived with my parents, who played a significant role in his upbringing."
Neelima also shared that she chose a more stable financial path, which led her to become a full-time actress. She reminisced, "When I moved to this city in 1990, I had only 4,500 in my pocket, earned entirely by myself without any help from my parents. I was fiercely independent, and it’s hard to imagine relocating to Bombay from Delhi with such a small amount. It’s quite astonishing. I never borrowed money or sought assistance from my family; I managed everything on my own."
She emphasized that fate played a significant role in her life, and she feels incredibly fortunate. After settling in Mumbai, she embarked on a new chapter that quickly led her to become one of the most cherished stars on television, earning both national and international recognition.
