Why Emily Blunt is Saying No to AI in Her Upcoming Film 'Disclosure Day'
Emily Blunt's Bold Stance Against AI in Film
Emily Blunt, a celebrated actress known for her Golden Globe accolades and Academy Award nominations, is making headlines with her decision to avoid Artificial Intelligence (AI) in her forthcoming movie, 'Disclosure Day.' The 43-year-old star revealed her fears regarding AI, stating that it genuinely frightens her. This decision mirrors a rising concern among creatives about the potential consequences of AI in the film sector.
In 'Disclosure Day,' Blunt portrays a pivotal character who must produce eerie sounds as she transforms during a weather broadcast. During an interview on 'Hot Ones' with Sean Evans, she recounted a significant four-minute sequence where her character slowly deteriorates. Blunt remarked, “There were different methods to achieve this. You could opt for the AI approach, which I find quite daunting. I thought I could generate some truly bizarre sounds myself.” Her dedication to authenticity led her to create these sounds naturally instead of depending on AI.
Taking a proactive role in her character's vocal expressions, Blunt chose to record a range of unusual sounds herself. “I suggested that I could come in and we could explore a variety of strange noises. And that’s exactly what we did,” she shared. The actress produced a mix of clicking, humming, and other unconventional sounds, which the sound designer later integrated into the film's final audio. This commitment to organic sound creation emphasizes her belief in the significance of human artistry in the creative process.
This isn't the first occasion Blunt has raised her voice against AI in the entertainment realm. She previously criticized the emergence of AI-generated performers, like Tilly Norwood, in a discussion with Variety. Blunt stressed the importance of preserving authentic human connections in storytelling, urging industry professionals to rethink their dependence on technology that could undermine the emotional richness of performances.
As excitement grows for 'Disclosure Day,' directed by Steven Spielberg, the film is scheduled for release in India on June 12, 2026. Blunt's opposition to AI not only highlights her dedication to her craft but also ignites a wider dialogue about the future of creativity in an increasingly digital landscape.
