Details on the Film

The biopic is scheduled to be released in theaters on April 24, 2026. According to reports from Variety, the film was initially set to explore how allegations of sexual abuse and trafficking affected the pop star. However, about one-third of the film was reportedly cut after legal representatives for the Jackson estate discovered a clause in a settlement with one of the singer’s accusers that prohibited any mention of him in a film. This led to significant rewrites of the narrative and a delay in the release, which increased production costs by an estimated $10 million to $15 million.

Studio Lionsgate is optimistic that the film will generate approximately $700 million worldwide. If this prediction comes to fruition, it would position the biopic among the highest-grossing music films, following the success of Bohemian Rhapsody, which grossed $910 million.
