What to Expect from Lady Gaga's Surprise Role in The Devil Wears Prada 2?
The Anticipated Sequel Arrives
After nearly 20 years since the original film became a cultural phenomenon, The Devil Wears Prada 2 premiered in theaters on May 1, 2026. Directed by David Frankel, this sequel features a unique storyline that is not based on Lauren Weisberger’s follow-up novel, Revenge Wears Prada. One of the most exciting aspects of the film is the cameo by Lady Gaga, which has quickly become a hot topic among viewers.
Lady Gaga's involvement in The Devil Wears Prada 2 includes two scenes, a detail that surfaced in late 2025 when she was seen in Milan during her world tour. The collaboration was initiated by Meryl Streep, the film's lead actress, who had previously met Gaga at the SNL 50 event in 2025. Streep had long desired to work with Gaga, and when director David Frankel suggested reaching out, she took the plunge. In her own words, she shared, “I thought, I might as well try her. I just said, ‘Would you do this? Because it’s going to be really good.’ And she said, ‘Yeah!’ Just like that.”
The sequel delves into the conflict between Miranda Priestly and Gaga's character, as Miranda grapples with her future in an era where traditional magazines are struggling. The Milan fashion show for Runway faces financial constraints under new management, leading Stanley Tucci's character to urge Miranda to seek Gaga's assistance, paving the way for her entry into the plot.
Frankel provided insights into collaborating with Gaga, explaining that they developed a character for her that included a fictional rivalry with Miranda. He noted, “We thought we’d create this persona for Gaga that there’s this terrible history, and she’s such a diva that Miranda can’t stand her, and she loved it! It was really fun for both of them to play this really catty moment.”
Beyond her acting role, Gaga also contributed to the film's soundtrack, writing and performing three original songs: Runway, Shape of a Woman, and Glamorous Life, the latter two being duets with Doechii. Streep mentioned that her interactions with Gaga were largely improvised, allowing both actresses to delve into their characters' complex relationship. The film also sees the return of Emily Blunt and Anne Hathaway as Emily Charlton and Andy Sachs, respectively.
