Jordan Firstman Turns Heartbreak into Art with 'Club Kid'
Actor Jordan Firstman, known for his roles in I Love LA and English Teacher, has channeled his personal breakup into his debut film, Club Kid. This feature marks his directorial debut and is competing in the Un Certain Regard section at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival. Ahead of the film's screening, Firstman took the opportunity to pose with his cast, including Diego Calva, who stars in The Night Manager. The comedy-drama features Firstman alongside Calva, Cara Delevingne, and young talent Reggie Absolom.
Excitement Builds for 'Club Kid' Premiere
During a photocall for Club Kid, Firstman was in great spirits, sharing joyful moments with his co-stars, Diego Calva and Cara Delevingne. He even playfully lifted newcomer Absolom, eliciting laughter from the young actor. In this English-language film, Firstman plays Peter, a gay man in New York whose life takes a turn with the arrival of his son, portrayed by Absolom. As an underground party promoter, Peter faces the challenge of balancing his nightlife with fatherhood.
Set to premiere on May 15 at Cannes, Firstman expressed that showcasing his work at such a renowned festival feels like a risk. He is eager yet anxious about how audiences will respond and whether it will attract distributors.
In an interview with Vanity Fair, Firstman shared that Club Kid was inspired by the end of a significant relationship, emerging from a tough time in his life. He noted, "It’s difficult for me to discuss—there's a lot of emotion connected to this for me."
The film delves into the father-son relationship, highlighting how Peter introduces his son to the vibrant nightlife of the queer community. Young actor Absolom was selected after Firstman reviewed numerous audition tapes from London, while Cara Delevingne is expected to portray the boy's mother.
