Global Success of The Devil Wears Prada 2

The sequel to The Devil Wears Prada is making waves at the box office worldwide. Just this week, it surpassed the total earnings of the original 2006 film, directed by David Frankel, within a mere nine days. The current global gross stands at over $433 million, with projections suggesting it could reach between $650 million and $750 million by the end of its theatrical run. The beloved cast, including Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci, have all reprised their iconic roles as Miranda Priestly, Andy Sachs, Emily Charlston, and Nigel Kipling.

The Film's Impressive Earnings

According to reports from Variety, The Devil Wears Prada 2 has amassed over $433 million globally in just two weekends. Produced by Disney, the sequel added $75 million and $43 million from the US market alone. In North America, it has already garnered $144 million and continues to climb. Industry experts are particularly impressed by its international appeal, with $288 million earned from 51 different territories.

The international box office breakdown includes $28 million from the UK, $28 million from Italy (where part of the film was shot), $22 million from Brazil, and $20 million from Mexico. The original film concluded its run with $326 million, and analysts predict that the sequel will finish with earnings between $650 million and $750 million as it exits theaters later this year. Notably, Disney has become the first Hollywood studio in 2026 to exceed $2 billion in global ticket sales.

Compensation for the Star-Studded Cast

The leading actresses of the sequel are set to receive significant bonuses due to the film's unexpected box office success. Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, and Emily Blunt each earned $12.5 million under a 'favored nations' agreement, which could rise to $20 million after bonuses once the film's theatrical run concludes. Streep reportedly insisted during negotiations that she and her co-stars would receive equal pay.

With a production budget of $100 million, much of the funding is believed to have gone towards the cast's salaries. The reunion of the cast and crew took two decades, as they wanted to ensure the story was perfect. Director Frankel and writer Brosh McKenna were initially uncertain if Oscar-winning actress Streep would agree to return, given her limited participation in sequels.
