Mark Ruffalo: The Hollywood Star with a Passion for Real Estate
Mark Ruffalo's Real Estate Journey
Mark Ruffalo has made a name for himself in Hollywood, not just as an actor but also as a savvy real estate investor. Over the years, he has built an impressive collection of properties, which includes everything from sprawling rural homes in New York to charming historic townhouses in Brooklyn and Los Angeles.
One of Ruffalo's most cherished investments is his connection to upstate New York. He first fell in love with the Callicoon area in the mid-1990s, where he bought his initial home for just $63,000. This property, which featured a one-room cabin on 27 acres, became a significant project for him. By 2001, he and his wife, Sunrise Coigney, upgraded to a larger estate on a former dairy farm, complete with a 19th-century post-and-beam barn. Ruffalo has described this decision as one of the best he ever made, highlighting its impact on his personal growth.
Urban Living and Property Changes
As his family expanded, Ruffalo turned his attention to Los Angeles to better support his children's education. In 2004, he purchased a gated single-story home in the Hollywood Hills for $1.7 million. This 3,000-square-foot residence, built in 1933 and inspired by a classic Connecticut farmhouse, included three bedrooms, four bathrooms, and a separate guesthouse. The home was known for its beamed ceilings, a cozy living room with a fireplace, and a charming breakfast nook. Ruffalo sold this property in 2008 for $1.65 million to Zooey Deschanel and Ben Gibbard.
Ruffalo's real estate ventures also reached New York City. In 2015, he bought a townhouse in Brooklyn's Carroll Gardens for $3.5 million. This 1899-built home spanned 3,000 square feet and featured stunning period details such as cathedral ceilings, marble fireplaces, and decorative arches. It also included a sunroom with a balcony and a private garden. After holding onto the property for two years, he sold it in 2017 for $3.2 million. Additionally, reports suggest that Ruffalo has a residence in a four-story townhouse from the early 20th century on Manhattan's Upper West Side.
