Josh Gad Enters the Ocean's Universe

Hollywood star Josh Gad has been officially cast in the eagerly awaited prequel to the Ocean's series. According to reports from Variety, Gad will take on a significant role in this period heist film, which features Margot Robbie and Bradley Cooper in leading roles. The cast also includes Wagner Moura, recognized for his role in Narcos, and Monica Barbaro, who gained fame from Top Gun: Maverick. In addition to acting, Cooper is directing and producing the film through LuckyChap, the production company co-founded by Robbie along with Tom Ackerley, Josey McNamara, and Milan Popelka.

While specific plot details are still under wraps, it was disclosed at CinemaCon earlier this year that the story will take place during the 1962 Monaco Grand Prix. The film will delve into the backstory of Danny Ocean's parents, a character famously played by George Clooney in the original trilogy from 2001 to 2007. Robbie hinted at the film's concept, saying, “Before Danny Ocean ever stepped foot in Vegas, two masterminds taught him everything he knows — his parents.” She added that the film will depict these characters in their prime as they orchestrate a complex heist at the renowned racing event.

The original Ocean's 11, released in 1960, featured iconic Rat Pack members like Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin. The franchise saw a revival in 2001 under director Steven Soderbergh, who brought together a stellar cast including Clooney, Matt Damon, Brad Pitt, and Julia Roberts. This successful reboot led to two sequels, Ocean's Twelve in 2004 and Ocean's Thirteen in 2007. In 2018, the franchise expanded further with Ocean's Eight, a female-led reboot starring Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, and Anne Hathaway.

The untitled prequel will have a strong lineup of executive producers, including Josey McNamara, Bronte Payne, Bobby Wilhelm, Jay Roach, Michelle Graham, Lee Isaac Chung, Ashley Jay Sandberg, Gary Ross, and Olivia Milch. Gad, who is well-known for voicing Olaf in Disney's Frozen and Frozen II, has also starred in films like Beauty and the Beast, Murder on the Orient Express, and A Dog's Purpose. He first gained acclaim for his role as Elder Arnold Cunningham in the Broadway musical The Book of Mormon, showcasing his diverse talents.

Looking ahead, Gad has a number of exciting projects on the horizon, including "Space Balls: The New One," sequels to the animated franchises "Angry Birds" and "Frozen," and a film adaptation of Dr. Seuss's "Oh, The Places You Will Go," featuring Ariana Grande. As production for the Ocean's prequel approaches, fans are eagerly anticipating more information about this captivating new addition to the beloved franchise.
