In the film, Ella plays Doris, a flight attendant who develops a unique connection with the lead character, a young boy named Jeff, portrayed by Clark Shotwell, during a flight across the country. Travolta described the decision to cast his daughter as "just kismet," highlighting her essential role in creating the film's emotional core. He stated, "Doris is the one that the little boy falls in love with. I said, 'Ella's much more suited for that magical connection that this little boy feels.'" He emphasized that the chemistry between Ella and Shotwell was so authentic that it required no acting, allowing him to showcase her talent as he envisioned.

"Propeller One-Way Night Coach" also marks Travolta's debut as a director and is inspired by a book he wrote in 1997, reflecting his long-standing passion for aviation.
