James Franco Joins the John Rambo Cast

After stepping away from Hollywood due to misconduct allegations from former students at his acting school in 2021, Franco was recently spotted at the 79th Cannes Film Festival, attending various premieres, including Jordan Firstman's Club Kid. As reported by Variety, Franco's role is relatively minor but pivotal as a villain. Noah Centineo takes on the title role of Rambo, while Stranger Things star David Harbour plays Major Trautman, Rambo's commanding officer. This new installment is set to be released in 2027 and serves as a prequel to First Blood (1982), which originally introduced Sylvester Stallone as the iconic character.



Directed by Jalmari Helander, filming for John Rambo has been completed in Thailand. The cast also features actors such as Yao from Sinners, Jason Tobin, Quincy Isaiah, Jefferson White, and Tayme Thapthimthong from The White Lotus Season 3. The film is produced by Lionsgate, Millennium Media, Templeton Media, and AGBO, with the screenplay written by Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani. Executive producers include the Russo brothers, Anthony and Joe, along with Stallone himself.


James Franco's Controversial Past


The 127 Hours star has faced considerable criticism since 2019 when allegations of inappropriate behavior and abuse of power from several aspiring actresses at his acting school, Studio 4, came to light. The school has since shut down. Franco has denied these allegations but acknowledged that the concerns raised by the women were significant. The legal issues were settled in 2021, with Franco agreeing to pay over $2.2 million to resolve the claims, with both parties agreeing to withdraw their lawsuits.
