Set against the backdrop of 1930s New York, the series follows Cage's character, private investigator Ben Reilly, as he navigates a political conflict that unveils the superhero's origins. Will this weary detective survive the challenges ahead? Warning: Spoilers Ahead!

The Plot Unfolds

Spider-Noir: The story so far

In this alternate universe, Reilly has hung up his superhero cape for five years following the tragic death of his beloved Ruby (Amanda Schull), who was killed by a vengeful client. He copes with his grief through alcohol and mundane cases. However, a new case involving Irish mobster Finn Byrne, also known as Silvermane, leads him to discover others with extraordinary abilities. Reilly reflects on his time in World War I, where he encountered veterans subjected to inhumane experiments by the Germans. It was during this time that he was bitten by a dying test subject, a creature that was part man, part spider, which explains his powers.

Current Events in Spider-Noir

In the present timeline of Spider-Noir, Silvermane is attempting to manipulate the mayoral election to oust Mayor Norris (Michael Kostroff), who refuses to comply with his demands. Silvermane (Brendan Gleeson) has enlisted the help of superpowered henchmen, including Flint Marko aka Sandman (Jack Huston), Lonnie Lincoln aka Tombstone (Abraham Popoola), and Dirk Leydon aka Megawatt (Andrew Lewis Caldwell), to coerce Ben Reilly and a revived Spider into supporting him. Meanwhile, lounge singer and femme fatale Cat Hardy (Li Jun Li) tries to seduce Reilly with her charm.

Episode Highlights

Spider-Man Episode 8: The Man in the Mask

In a dramatic turn, Dr. Faber (Amy Aquino) forcibly administers drugs to Reilly after Cat exposes his identity as the Spider. Faber intends to use his blood to create an antidote for her son and other WWI veterans. However, Reilly escapes with several vials just as Silvermane and his crew destroy Faber's lab. Alongside his friend, journalist Robbie Robertson (Lamorne Morris), Reilly manages to reverse the powers of Lonnie and plans to do the same for Flint and Dirk when Silvermane summons him again.

Climactic Confrontations

Who lives and who dies?

Suspicious of Reilly's true identity, Silvermane grows wary after Dirk recognizes him from their time in France. Robbie intervenes by disguising himself as the Spider, but Reilly's identity is ultimately revealed. A fierce battle ensues, with the real Spider facing off against Sandman and Megawatt while attempting to administer the antidote. In a shocking twist, Cat, who harbors feelings for Flint, shoots Silvermane and escapes his grasp.

Conclusion and Future Prospects

In the chaos, Megawatt nearly defeats Sandman, but Spider intervenes, throwing him in front of an oncoming train. He gives his last vial to Cat for Flint. The series then fast-forwards to show Mayor Norris winning another election, while Cat and Flint reunite. Reilly's detective agency welcomes a new partner, his capable secretary Janet Ruiz (Karen Rodriguez), who is privy to all his secrets, much like Robbie. The journalist has now established his own publication, the Harlem Herald, as Reilly and Ruiz await new clients.

As of now, Amazon Prime Video has not confirmed a second season. However, co-showrunner Oren Uziel mentioned to Collider that the series is designed to continue for as many seasons as desired. All eight episodes of Spider-Noir are currently available for streaming.
