Disney's Live-Action 'Tangled': First Look at Rapunzel's New Adventure!
Filming Begins for Disney's 'Tangled' in Spain
Disney has officially kicked off production on its live-action version of the cherished animated classic "Tangled," with filming starting in Girona, Spain, on June 24. Fans are now treated to a sneak peek of the film's reimagining, as a steady flow of behind-the-scenes photos and videos reveal exciting details about the costumes, cast, and memorable scenes.
Early images from the set highlight lead actress Teagan Croft, who dons a vibrant purple gown with puffy sleeves, a notable shift from Rapunzel's iconic pink dress from the 2010 animated film. This fresh design includes a corset that lacks the familiar front-tie feature beloved by fans. Additional close-up shots shared by the fan account @TangledUpdates show Croft in between takes, showcasing her natural hair instead of the elaborate wig she wears for her role as Rapunzel. This wig, which features the character's signature long blonde hair, has also been captured in various images and videos, including scenes of it being intricately styled.
Recent footage from the Girona set has confirmed that one of the most beloved scenes from the animated film will be recreated in this live-action adaptation. Clips depict children braiding Rapunzel's hair on a stone staircase, adorning it with flowers during a kingdom celebration. This moment echoes the original film's sequence set to "When Will My Life Begin," where the children of Corona help style Rapunzel's hair after she steps outside her tower for the first time. The excitement surrounding this recreation has made it a hot topic among fans.
In addition to Rapunzel's scenes, Kathryn Hahn has been spotted in costume as Mother Gothel, the character who keeps Rapunzel imprisoned in a tower while exploiting her magical hair for eternal youth. Originally voiced by Donna Murphy in the animated version, Hahn's portrayal is highly anticipated by fans.
The film stars Teagan Croft as Rapunzel and Milo Manheim as Flynn Rider, both of whom were officially cast in January 2026. The supporting cast includes Diego Luna in a yet-to-be-revealed role, along with Patrick and Hugo McPherson playing the Stabbington Brothers. Directed by Michael Gracey, known for "The Greatest Showman," the screenplay is written by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, with Michael Montemayor contributing as an additional writer. Although the live-action "Tangled" was first announced in December 2024, production faced delays before resuming in October 2025. While an official release date has not been confirmed, the film is expected to premiere in theaters in 2028, with more updates likely as filming continues.
